On Feb. 24th Putin ordered an invasion into Ukraine, creating the worst refugee crisis the world has seen of a first-world nation since World War II. It’s estimated that 500K refugees have crossed into neighboring countries like Germany and Poland. The UN predicts another 1.5 million Ukrainians will leave Ukraine.
Planting Peace is on the ground at the Poland/Ukraine border delivering aid to refugees. Our biggest focus is on identifying refugees that have nowhere to go or family to put them into safe long-term house. We are also trying to identify refugees with pets that need emergency long-term housing. Once we get people out of the war zone itself, getting people out of freezing temperatures is paramount.
