Lemmie and Mabel Andrews School for Orphan Children

“If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children.”
~Gandhi

In Haiti the constitution reads that every child has the right to an education. The grim reality is that most children on this tiny island go their entire lives without schooling.

In 2008 Planting Peace opened its first school for the children living in its orphanages. This came about when Planting Peace co-founder John Dieubon decided that the private schools which the children had been attending were not up to par. Our intention is to ensure that the children get a more rounded education that includes social and environmental issues. Today, Lemmie and Mabel Andrews School for Orphan Children is thriving, and the children enrolled there are able to pursue a proper education, free from the problems that plague Haiti’s school system.
