Endangered Species

“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.” -Native American Proverb

An Unsettling Predicament

There are a variety of unfortunate causes that have contributed to the growing list of endangered species. Development has traditionally been one of the primary reasons for the disappearance of species from their native habitats. And as our world population continues to swell, the need for expansion into previously undeveloped areas will destroy the habitats of countless more plants and animals.

In addition, increased worldwide industrialization will create more pollution and greenhouse gases, further threatening species. Over fishing, excessive hunting and the introduction of exotic species into habitats are also major factors that contribute to the endangerment of species.

According to the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, over 600 animal species and roughly 750 plant species are either endangered or threatened in the U.S. alone. And although worldwide estimations are difficult to predict, the list of endangered or threatened species all over the globe grows larger by the day.

The more we disrupt the fragile balance of our world’s ecosystems by destroying species, the more we jeopardize our own existence. Whether it’s due to our direct or indirect actions, we are responsible for endangering these plants and animals. Because of this, we need to take action to both protect the species that are currently in danger, and prevent further loss.

Solving the Problem
In response to this worldwide problem, Planting Peace has begun an initiative to protect and reintroduce a variety of endangered or threatened plants and animals to their native habitats. By their native habitats, we mean everything from the wilderness to your backyard. Through our combined efforts, we will help save and restore a variety of species- one area at a time.

How You Can Help
The worldwide community must act to protect our plants and animals in order to sustain a balance for ourselves and future generations. Any effort you, as a member of this community, make to help our planet’s species will have a positive and long-standing effect. If you need assistance finding what plants and animals are endangered in your area and what you can do to help, don’t hesitate to contact us. We can make a difference if we all work together. Thanks for your support.
